The papers of the Aldred family include correspondence, photographs, postcards, press clippings and posters. The majority of this collection are letters, with two written in Māori. Most of the letters are by Arthur Aldred, writing from Tonga to his wife in New Zealand during the course of the First World War.

Extracts from the Lyttelton Times, June 11-Sept. 24, 1902 and pasted in an exercise book. Compiled and annotated by William Henry Sherwood Roberts. The extracts on Māori nomenclature include Names in Canterbury : interesting information, The Māori language : how names should be pronounced and Passes through the Southern Alps : early discoveries.

Original manuscript letters, ink and pencil, written in Māori. Includes three envelopes, two with wax seals. Also includes a photocopied entry on William Colenso from the Dictionary of New Zealand Biography.
